Lilly Gorman (b. 2002) is a time-based artist, working in image making, sound art, and performance. Born and raised in the suburbs of Dallas-Fort Worth, their 7-year background in photography grew through the lens of journalism. Blending traditional documentary work, performance and self-portraiture, and the archive, their visual language works in themes revolving around gender, the American West, longing, loneliness, lineage and cultural passdown. Approaching conceptual-documentary work has guided the path to large bodies of work with the intention of the viewer to reflect, humanize, and feel empathy. Projects are done as long-form narratives, applying traditional photographic techniques to contemporary ideas and approaches.
